We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a new monthly series, Genomics Institute in Sync Talks (GIST), with the aim of sharing topics of interest to our community.
Our first talk in this series will be next Monday, May 16th, from 12pm to 1pm. Tim Harris and his team will be giving a talk, Responsible Data Sharing for Genomics. Join us live in B279 (Double Helix Room) or add to calendar using the button below to join via Zoom.
Responsible Data Sharing for Genomics
UCSC continues to play a critical role in helping ensure researchers have access to huge quantities of genomics data. However, with that power comes substantial responsibility to ensure that patient data is protected from malicious actors on the internet. In this talk we discuss those responsibilities within the context of recent directives from the National Institute of Health. We focus on mechanisms that provide security for patient data, and provide an overview of compliance methodologies that are likely to become more and more of a standard in our grant based projects. Participants will leave this talk with a better awareness of how to engage with security and compliance methodologies, and we as a result, we hope to create related workgroups for future collaboration on this critical topic.
