Director, Genomics Institute Office of Diversity

Job  ID: 64385

Initial Review Date:  March 4, 2024

The Director of the Genomics Institute Office of Diversity (GIOD) provides leadership, management, and strategic vision for the development and implementation of DEI initiatives within the Genomics Institute of Baskin Engineering at the University of California Santa Cruz.

They are independently responsible for program development, implementation, and evaluation, long-term strategic planning, budget management, identification of new funding sources, and promoting institutional practices that promote and nurture a more just, inclusive, and equitable academic research culture. A critical role of the DEI Program Manager is to advance policies and practices that attract diverse students, staff, and professionals to the Genomics Institute (GI) and to promote a more inclusive culture within the GI. This is accomplished through outreach and education of our constituencies, which, in addition to the GI organization, includes K-12 schools, community colleges and universities, and the larger genomics research community. The director supports the PI on the NGHRI DAP (R25), an undergraduate research training program that has the mandate to increase the number and academic/career success of underrepresented students engaging in genomic research.
